Wow! The Sir John Oldcastle is one of the best places, no doubt. If you want to have some rocking time, then you have to visit this fantastic place. I was overwhelmed by its charm at Farringdon Road. I was not sure where to spend my time and then I came across this great place. I was with three friends when I visited London last year. We were lurking around, just like that and then I saw some old-looking pub. I like old places, but my friends did not want to get in but I forced them and they agreed.
As we entered, I was overwhelmed by the ambiance. It was so cool and serene with delicious aroma. We ordered beer and started chilling out. At first, I thought it could be expensive but I was wrong as this was one of the affordable places. A normal beer costs around 4-5 pounds. After beer, we had some food. For three of us, the bill came around 50 pounds, which was cool. Today, I still miss that place as we became regular visitors of The Sir John Oldcastle. If you are looking forward to have a good time then this is the place for you.

I would have never stopped in this place had it not been the fact that I was starving...I was with a group of people and we were worried about finding a place that was big enough to fit all of us on short notice...we had gotten off at the Barbican Tube station and wondered around for a bit...and then ended up near the Farringdon Road Underground.
From the looks of it, this place looks like a regular old pub, but when you walk inside you realize how big it actually is!! We had no problem getting a party of 8 seated at 8 in evening a random Monday. The pub seemed to serve all of the normal pub fair...with beer and fish and chips and all of the amenities. They have a wonderful special menu that serves full meals for about 4 pounds, and they also have a special menu for two that will serve you two meals for about 10 pounds all together. Plus, from the looks of it, there weren't any tourists to be seen!! It looked as if only locals were hitting up this place...which is always a good sign.
The food was actually pretty good! I'm not going to lie and say it is the best meal I've ever had, but for 4 pounds each, you cannot really beat it. I did the special meal for two and ordered a grilled chicken caesar salad and the fish and chips. The caesar salad had real parmesan on it!
So, if you find yourself near the Farringdon Road Underground station, and are looking for a place to take a rest, watch some CNN, grad some inexpensive food and have a chat with a few friends, this... read more

The first time I was around the Farringdon area I went to another pub just in front of the Farringdon stop. It was alright but there was nothing special about it, however on another occasion I went to The Sir John Oldcastle and this pub does have a little extra compared to a normal pub...
The first thing would be the really divers food menu and the different menus they have. The Sir John Oldcastle is a really good solution for a cheap dinner if you're there with someone else check out the menu for two people. We got a menu each and with a drink it was less than 10 pounds for both of us! I was really glad to find that out cause at the moment I was starving and didn't have too much cash on me. Plus the food was pretty good, ok it wasn't the finest cuisine I had ever had but it was decent.
The second thing is that it's really big and shows sports games on the various tv screens they have. So when a big game is played first of all they show the game and there will probably be a place for you to sit down and watch the tv.
You'll have to order at the counter and pay there but you then let them know at which table you're sitting and they'll serve you at the table.... read more
