Cafe 1001

I have had lunch here several times and have never been disappointed. Cafe 1001 is always busy...during the week, on the weekends, rain or shine...I've never seen the place look empty. They offer a variety of options for food...if you are vegan, vegetarian, or an avid meat eater...there is something for everyone here.

The outside of the place has a grill that serves burgers and grilled corn on the cob...the inside has a cafe with sandwiches, salads...and there is another little section on the left that offers special deals...soup and bread for a little over 3 pounds, jacket potatoes, lasagna, three salad combos...all at a pretty reasonable price...and it is quick since it is already made...they'll just put whatever you want in the microwave if you want it hot.

I believe they make everything on site, so you know it is fresh...and there aren't the usual preservatives that you'd find at other places.

Not only is the food good but this place is also known for being a DJ bar...I have never been for the music...so I can't exactly say...but upstairs there are comfy couches and tables to sit at...so I can imagine it would be a nice venue to listen to music.... read more

I only came to the cafe1001 once and it was at lunch time. I was walking along Brick Lane going to Rough Trade (it's the music shop just infront) and I was starving! Just before entering into Dray Walk I could smell the delicious smell of roasted onions and burgers, I just couldn't resist! So I waited in the line which is outside, I didn't even know you could go inside to eat I thought that it was a whole different bar. But no, once I got my bacon burger with onions I went inside (there is also a terrace but the weather wasn't very good so I decided to go inside) up the stairs to the first level and sat down at a small one or two person table. The first level is completely different from the rest of the bar, it's like a chill out lounge; there are really big and low couches in the main corners of the room and in between you have different tables and cushions you can sit on. You can actually lay back on most of the cushions I don't mean lie down but most people end up in a posture in between lying down and sit straight. The decorations on the wall are really original and colourful paintings and the music goes very well with the atmosphere. I didn't have my laptop with me but I saw four people using theirs so I guess that there is free wifi at the cafe1001. This place actually reminded me of a Starbucks café but with better quality food and a way better vibe.
You can tell that the place is really for people who want to chill.
