People's opinions
I heard so much about the Sports café on Haymarket, I heard it was THE place in London to go watch a football game or basically any sport that is shown on tv. So I decided to check it out when I wanted to see Man U against Inter Milan for the Champions League.
The game was on at 7.45pm and I arrived at around 7.20pm and I was meeting with a friend to see the game. I had to pay an entry fee of 3 pounds and I also had to buy a drink straight away. I was eventually going to buy a drink but I wasn't expecting to have to do so at the very beginning... The ground floor was packed so I went up stair hopping I'd have a little more luck but it was almost worse upstairs... There was absolutely no way I could find a place to sit down, the tables were actually reserved and I heard the reservation had been made many days in advance! At the top floor there are many pool tables but it's hard to play because there are so many people watching the game that you haven't got enough space to play... The drinks are very expensive and the bar tenders aren't very client friendly and are stressed out by the crowd.
I passed in front of this place in the middle of the day and it was almost empty, at that moment it seemed really nice and I would have gone in for a pint and a game of pool. But if a big game is on the place becomes completely rammed and there's just no point... This bar is really victim of its success and has become like a tourist trap but for sports fans! It’s a sports fan trap!
