The King's College offers it's students' rooms to the public in summers from end of June till mid September. I stayed there for a week when I arrived and was first searching for a flat. There is a huge amount of rooms and they are quite cheap mine was 25 pounds if I recall well. There are four different residences mine was on Finchley Road.
The rooms are good, of course it is not fancy hotel style for example the showers are in the corridor. But you get for what you pay for and this is really an unbeatable price for London.
Another good point is that the residences are extremely well placed. Mine was close to Covent Garden which is extremely good and all the hot spots like Soho, Picadilly, Trafalgar, Oxford Street are all at walking distance.
And of course it is always good fun to be able to be like a student again for a week!
