            Lyceum Tavern
This place is located really close to the Lyceum Theatre, the Somerset House, The London School of Economics and King's College, this bar always has an eclectic crowd ranging from theatre goers to students. I've met here several times with classmates for drinks after departmental events. The atmosphere is classically British, with big wood banisters, wooden tables and leather benches, tons of nooks and crannies....it makes you feel as if this is how the pubs might have looked in London well over a hundred years ago. I must say, I had never been to a fitness centre in London, so maybe my expectations were a little too high, but I really was a little taken back by how dirty the locker room was. Granted, it was in the afternoon and all of the little kids that had just gotten out of school were running around after their swim lessons, so maybe that contributed to the look of the facility. Nevertheless, it just seemed to be poorly maintained. The key I used for the lock had a broken wrist band, so I had to try to hold it in my hand the entir read more
            Vaudeville Theatre
I went to this theatre back in December for a showing of Piaf. The show had a 6 week sell out run at the Donmar Warehouse in Covent Garden, and was transferred to the Vaudeville for an additional 14 week session. I love the theatre, but am on a very tight budget, so I was pleased to find out that for this particular show, 20 seats would be sold for only 10 pounds each for every performance. All you had to do was show up at the box office at 10am to buy the tickets! I believe that regular tickets went for around 30 pounds, so read more
            The French Bookshop
As I'm taking French lessons I decided that what I needed was to start reading French books! because just learning the language in a text book is really not motivating to I decided to just go to South Kensington and find a French bookstore. Why South Kensington because that's where all the French living in London are. I guess it is due to the lycee Français (French school) which is there. It's quite incredible; the few roads in front of the French school are completely French! The people speak French, the shops, restaurants read more
            Heaven
I went here on Halloween with a bunch of friends. We were able to get in free with a few vouchers we had printed off from their website. The place was pretty big with several dance floors that place different types of music. There is one main dance floor on the first level that also has a stage. On that particular night there was a brief drag show!!! Many people were dressed up in Halloween costumes...although to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if that is how some of the people dressed on a daily basis! The scene read more
            Charles Dickens Museum
This museum is considered to have the world's most important collection of material relating to the great Victorian novelist and social commentator Charles Dickens. The location used to be the private home of Dickens between 1837 and 1839. Guests are allowed to see paintings, rare editions, manuscripts, original furniture as well as other items that belonged to the beloved author. When I went on the tour, my favorite part was getting to walk through the house. You really feel as if you are taking a little step back in ti read more
            Robert Dyas
When you are new to a place, sometimes it is really tough to figure out where to purchase things like electronic appliances and kitchenware. A few weeks ago I was looking for a pan that I could make cupcakes in...and wasn't able to find them at the grocery stores like Sainsbury's. Robert Dyas ended up being the place that I found a cupcake pan (they call it a muffin pan, but it is essentially the same thing). I also bought a 9" round spring form cake pan...the prices seem a little high, but if you can't find what you wan read more
            The Edge
I went here on a Friday evening around 10pm and it wasn't too difficult to get in. There was a drag queen waiting at the entrance to take your entrance fee of 3 pounds. This place was cool, very lively and spacious, with different themes on each floor. This is definitely not your typical pub, as the drink menu was pretty extensive with all of the classics like mojitos, cosmopolitans...etc. They weren't cheap though...8 pounds per drink! On the plus side though, I saw the bartenders measuring the alcohol for each drink, a read more
            Whole Foods Market
Whole Foods is a very popular organic food store in the US. This place is the grocery store for organic and special food products...ranging from exotic fruits and vegetables to special gluten free breads, to vegan cookies and pastries... Whole Foods is not known for being cheap. Be prepared to spend more on a box of cereal or carton of juice here than you would elsewhere. The quality however is never disappointing and if you have a specific cheese or special dietary need, Whole Foods most likely will have what you need. read more
            Seafish
I was really impressed by this place! A group of friend wanted to get an inexpensive casual dinner together, and Seafish ended up being the perfect choice! The menu is pretty simple, you can get several types of fried fish, and few types of puddings and sausages, and chips of course! All of it is a la carte, so if you end up ordering both fish and chips, you are looking at spending about 9-10 pounds, and the portions are HUGE!! I split a plate of Haddock with someone and it was plenty for the both of us! One of the gr read more
