I can’t say anything negative of the Barmy Badger Backpackers it’s definitely a backpackers paradise; cheap not fancy or posh, very close to a tube station (Earl’s Court) and with a good backpackers vibe. If you stay in the common room then the price will be of 17 pounds the night with breakfast and 38 pounds if you stay in a double bed room. If you’re going to stay for the whole week then the prices become a lot cheaper!
There is a tv room with big cousins to sit on and there is a little garden where you can have a read more
The Cow is a very popular restaurant and has become quite noisy and packed with people. However there is a small room at the first level that is a lot cosier and relaxing. The dishes are very well served but be prepared, they’re very expensive. When I went there I had white wine with oysters and my wife had some seafood. The staff is very kind and we didn’t have to wait too long before being served. The Cow is situated on Westbourne park road in between Royal Oak tube station and Westbourne Park tube station. read more
The Murcury is a French restaurant (with a little English touch) in between Angel and Highbury Islington. This place is only known by the locals I discovered the place while talking to my neighbours who have been in Islington their whole life and who know I’m half French.
As a French I can say that the food is very good but it isn’t typical French food there is a slightly different touch to it which makes it unidentifiable.
There weren’t many people at The Mercury when I went there but I would advise you to make a read more
Each day there is a different menu which is written on a black board, the food here at the Eagle is Mediterranean. The atmosphere is cosy and the tables and bars are made out of old used up wood.
It’s always fun to see how the cooks prepare the food and here you can do so from the bar as the kitchen is open.
The big problem at the Eagle is that the place isn’t very big and there are very few tables to sit down at… so you might have to go to the bar and eat over there or be patient.
The prices over here are pretty read more
I tried the City’s Youth Hostel while I was in London last year and was pretty satisfied overall. The place is a little expensive but I guess that you do get all the little accessories you need like a tv room, washing machine, phone, Internet access but not for free. I paid 22 pounds for a bed in a common room with 8 other people! I think you can say that is a rip off anywhere in the world but as we are in the centre of London they can get away with it.
Another good point is that the City of London Youth Hostel is really read more
I went here to the Journeys Waterloo not such a long time ago when I was in London for two whole weeks. I stayed in various youth hostels like saint Christopher’s Inn in the centre and I must say that Journeys Waterloo isn’t a bad one at all. At first I was a little sceptic at the idea of being far from the centre and plus I don’t really know the South bank area but I gave it a shot and anyways I didn’t really have a choice. Well actually the South Bank has a lot to offer and having your hotel (or youth hostel) here read more
I came here last night with my wife and we were very satisfied with everything at the Premier Travel Inn of Southwark. The service was very good and at the reception they were very kind to us. The rooms are charming, clean and don’t need anything else to them, plus the beds are king size that’s a very good detail. At night we did hear a little noise around in the neighbourhood but it didn’t keep us awake at all. The next day we had the breakfast at the hotel, it had everything we needed if I recall it well it was an ex read more
Here's one of those rare bars where people start dancing at happy hour, normally you wait for the drinks to kick in and start dancing at around 11pm but at the Rumba Bar it already happens around 9pm (happy hours is from 6pm to 9pm on weekdays). Each day is different at this bar my favourite day would probably be Tuesday which is Salsa night! I've seen some pretty decent dancers on the dance floor...
A part from the Salsa night the music bounces from different styles to different styles like R & B, rock, hip-hop, drum'n'ba read more
The Wine Bar is impressive it is as if you are in the wine cellar! The atmosphere here is very “professional wine tasting” of course there’s no one spitting the wine back into a bucket like professional tasters but you can definitely tell that people who come here really appreciate wine and know what they’re drinking.
As for myself I’m not a specialist but I can appreciate a good wine or a Sherry.
You can have a little something to eat for less than 10 pounds it really isn’t advised to drink with an empty sto read more
I went here in the month of Febuary to go and see the exposition “Byzantium”. It was very impressive there are more than 300 objects like manuscripts, mosaics, paintings… you do get a good idea of what the city of byzantium was like.
When there’s an exposition like the one I saw you have to pay to get in (the entry fee for an adult is of 12 pounds, 10 for seniors and 4 for children) but if all you want to see the Royal Academy’s own collection it is free. At the exit you have the Royal Academy of Arts shop where read more
