            The Tower of London
This is definitely a must see when you come to London! Although the premise of the place is quite grim, it really gives you such an interesting insight to the way things were back when the tower was operating. I would recommend doing the Yeoman Warder tour, which is included in the price of the admission ticket. They will tell you funny (and somewhat gory at times) stories about the Tower of London. They dress in their traditional garb and normally have humorous personalities. The tours happen about every half hour and l read more
            London Eye
The London Eye is one of those things may or may not be something you want to do, depending on your personality. I must admit it was neat to go up in it and to get the lovely view of London and the Thames, but to be perfectly honest, I would have been just as happy spending my money on something else. If you are over 16, then the price is £15.50 and there are no student discounts. It is cheaper for children and senior citizens, although not by much. The London eye is sort of like riding a really big and fancy ferris read more
If you are a theatre buff or if you just suffered through Shakespeare in English Lit...then the Globe Theatre could be of interest to you!! I really enjoyed my visit here and would highly recommend going if the history of theatre in London is something that intrigues you!!! This place was built in 1972 as a memorial to the original Globe Theatre that was demolished in 1644 under the English Puritan Administration. The facility contains a theatre, education center and a permanent exhibition. The Theatre was designed with read more

I desperately needed an adapter to plug in my lap top to the UK power outlets and had no idea where to get one. This place looks like a paper store, and it is...it has everything from poster board, construction paper, markers, pens, paint...anything that a kid would need for a school project... However this place also has power outlet adapters!!! You would never guess it, but yes they do. They weren't too expensive, about 2-3pounds each. The selection isn't great, so you could probably get a really fancy one with seve read more
            Queen's Theatre
When I went to this place, the theatre was showing Les Miserables! I had never seen the show before, and I must say it was definitely worth a visit! London's West End is so famous and it certainly lives up to its name...it is absolutely comparable to Broadway in NYC. This venue was very accessible by the Piccadilly Circus Underground station...it definitely made you feel like you were in the heart of a bustling city! At the door they will inspect your bags, so be ready. Upon entering, you will be asked to present your ti read more
            The Sir John Oldcastle
I would have never stopped in this place had it not been the fact that I was starving...I was with a group of people and we were worried about finding a place that was big enough to fit all of us on short notice...we had gotten off at the Barbican Tube station and wondered around for a bit...and then ended up near the Farringdon Road Underground. From the looks of it, this place looks like a regular old pub, but when you walk inside you realize how big it actually is!! We had no problem getting a party of 8 seated at 8 i read more
            Scotch Steak Houses
I went here one evening before going to the theatre. My party was running a little behind schedule, so we wanted to get something decent...but also quick to eat. This place is pretty average as far as restaurants go. They have the typical British choices of food...and of course Steak...as the name would suggest. I wasn't particularly hungry, so I just ordered a slice of the Black Forest Cake. It was pretty good. Some of the people with me ordered Cheese Cake...and they were a little disappointed...but I think we've all b read more
            Homebase
So, I was staying with some friends that live in the UK and I ended up breaking part of their shower head by accident. Feeling very guilty, I needed to find a place where I could purchase a part that would replace the one that I had damaged. Homebase was the answer!! This is the place to go for any sort of home good or appliance. They have stuff for the bathrooms, kitchens, home offices, garden tools.. I don't really know too much about hardware stores, but this place seemed to have anything you could possibly need to read more
This place is just inside the main entrance of the British Library on the left. You don't have to have a reader's pass to stop in and have a look, although you might have to have your bag inspected at the door. This is a typical book shop for the most part. There are lots of post cards, regular cards, books and other trinkets all of which are a bit over priced...but of good quality. You can find some unique books and cards that would be difficult to find somewhere else...and a lot of the merchandise has a little historic read more
            The Famous Cock Tavern
I stopped in here on a random week night to meet up with some friends. I was very impressed with the prices of their wines, a decent bottle was under 10 pounds! They also had a good variety of beers and even a few really nice champagnes...all of which were very reasonable compared to other places that I have seen. I didn't order food, but it looked tasty. The pub also had a few televisions for those that like to have their eye on the game over a pint. It is very conveniently located next to the Highbury/Islington Tub read more
